Safety on Pohjolan Matka Buses

Safety is our top priority. We take care of the safety of our buses in many different ways to ensure a pleasant and secure travel experience.

To ensure the technical condition and roadworthiness of our buses, we carry out regular maintenance and inspections according to our maintenance schedule. In addition, we perform an annual safety inspection on every bus, during which we check, among other things, the condition of the seat belts. According to Finnish legislation, wearing a seat belt is mandatory in all vehicles while they are in motion. The driver will remind passengers to fasten their seat belts, and/or a sign or sticker instructing seat belt use is visible to everyone. However, it is good to remember that ultimately each passenger is responsible for using their seat belt. Our buses are also equipped with other safety‑enhancing devices required by law, such as emergency hammers.

Our drivers are experienced professionals who receive regular training in both safety matters and first aid. This ensures that they are prepared to act quickly and effectively in emergency situations. We require zero tolerance for substance use from our drivers; for this purpose, our vehicles are equipped with alcohol interlocks, even though the law does not directly require them.

The locations of emergency exits, first aid kits, and fire extinguishers are clearly marked in our buses. Additionally, there are extinguishing ports for the engine and auxiliary heater compartments to help combat a possible fire. If a warning light appears on the dashboard, the driver receives instructions on how to proceed, and any faults that compromise safe travel are repaired immediately. Alternatively, the group may be switched to another vehicle at a suitable and safe location during the trip.

Safety is also broadly connected to the Finnish working and rest time regulations that guide our drivers. These regulations also steer our route planning.
